  • What types of store concepts are available?

SumoSalad has a variety of store formats to suit a range of different operating environments.

Our Traditional SumoSalad concept store is an in-line or kiosk style that is formatted for shopping centres and food courts. These stores are generally up to 50 sq. m. and offer Made to Order (MTO), Do Your Own (DYO), Express Deli and cold drinks including our famous Cold Pressed Juice range.

The Little Sumo is designed for high foot traffic locations and is up to 20 sq. m. It includes the Express Deli, cold drinks and organic barista-made coffee.

Our Green Label concept is our premium concept and has taken the brand to new heights. It presents an elevated offering in larger format stores (from 80 sq. m.) and is our innovation hub. This store concept is taking SumoSalad to the high street to fit the growing ‘Fast Casual’ dining trend.

  • What skills and characteristics are you looking for in franchisees?

Joining SumoSalad does not require experience in the food industry as we provide thorough training. SumoSalad are looking for individuals who are highly motivated by success, prepared to be actively involved and who can add to the strength of our brand.

It is essential that franchisees are customer focused and can lead their staff effectively.

  • What support will I receive as a SumoSalad franchisee?

As a SumoSalad franchisee you are never left out in the cold. To get you off to the right start, you will spend two days at the SumoSalad support office in Sydney, with key management staff understanding each of their department’s responsibilities and how they can assist you.

From there, you will commence the four week in-store training program. This is competency-based training so the length of time is always dependent on previous experience. You will walk away with the knowledge and skills to successfully run your own store.

Once your store is ready to open, your assigned Training Manager assists you with recruitment of staff, rostering and any other pre-opening concerns. They are on hand to assist in both the day-to-day and bigger picture planning in the beginning stages of your opening to ensure your store has the best possible chance of success.

Given the initial hype around opening the new store, your official marketing launch will commence three months after your opening date, and is coordinated by the SumoSalad Marketing team. After you have successfully launched your store, the head office team provides dedicated on-going support. We are not afraid to roll up our sleeves and come in to provide the best support possible.

All stores are equipped with simple and easy-to-use point of sale software and hardware. This setup can run the Sumo Society loyalty program, making it seamless and easy to run reports. Our accredited suppliers also offer full support with onsite or phone assistance to solve any technical problems with minimal disruption to your store.

We use an online sales reporting interface, which means you can access this information anytime, anywhere in the world. Our online sales reporting program can provide:

    • Sales processed quickly and completely in real time
    • Summary reports on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
    • Complete transaction by transaction reports
    • Detailed product sales analysis
    • Cash drawer transactions
    • Actual sales vs budgeted sales reports

Our online training system, called the Sumo Online Training system (SOTS), assists you and your staff in all training needs. It also enables all communication to occur through one channel, meaning no information can be lost and provides training tools, recruitment links and much more relevant information for running your store on a day-to-day basis.

  • What will my training look like?

Once approved as a franchisee, you’ll spend two days in an intensive orientation/induction training session at our head office. You’ll then spend two weeks in a dedicated training store, and an additional two weeks in your new store with a qualified Training Manager at your side. Our training also includes First Aid and Food Safety courses.

Additionally, you have other training opportunities available, including certifications 3 and 4 in retail, and a diploma of franchising. We also regularly conduct workshops to assist in refreshing and addressing training and store development skills, and offer extensive online training for you and your staff members.

  • Can I run more than 1 SumoSalad store?

Yes! It is important to understand, though, that the most successful SumoSalad franchisees actively work in the business. If you choose to run multiple stores, you can expect to work many hours, particularly in the beginning. You will need to be involved at all locations you run with every facet of day to day operations, including hiring, training, customer service, food preparation, cleaning, and administrative functions, just to name a few.

  • How much money do I need to open a SumoSalad franchise?

Individuals will need 50% of total costs in non-borrowed personal resources to qualify. We do not offer financing to our franchisees; however, the brand has been accredited for cash flow lending to approved candidates by some of the major banks and lending institutions. The cost of opening a SumoSalad restaurant starts at $300,000 plus GST

  • Can I run my SumoSalad store part-time?

SumoSalad is not a good fit for people who want a business that runs itself. You are expected to work in your store a minimum of 40 hours a week and schedule yourself during peak periods. Please understand that the success of your business is in your hands, and that as a franchisee, you lead your team by example.

I bought two Sumo stores as I saw a great future with Sumo. I love how the whole team work together to make the brand better and better.
